Fishpond Lake, sitting in the shadow of Pine Mountain at the border of Kentucky and Virginia, offers a scenic backdrop to 22 miles (and counting) of purpose-built OHV trail.

Fishpond Lake does not allow swimming. Petroleum powered boats are not allowed but troller motors or paddle boats can be used.

Clarification from Letcher County Tourism, 12/8/2022: Camping is closed until the spring but the ATV trails are open and ready to ride.

The number of miles open at this time is small but the location is central to a few other trail systems if making a long weekend of it. Spearhead Trails, Mine Made, Hillbilly Trails Flatwoods Trailhead, Black Mountain Offroad are all within an hour’s drive. Hatfield McCoy has a couple trailheads within an hour and a half. Spearhead Trails also has a couple others in about an hour and a half.
If hiking is your thing, the Pine Mountain Trail, soon to be incorporated into the long-distance Great Eastern Trail, has a trailhead just a couple miles from Fishpond.
If you’re also a mountain biker, like me, Norton VA’s Flag Rock Area Trails are 36 minutes from Fishpond.
